Apply Online for Scholarships

Thanks to the generosity of donors, every spring the Sustainable Development Department is able to award scholarships to support some of our outstanding students. All SD scholarship recipients participate in the Goodnight Fellows Program. Fellows collaborate with SD faculty members and participate in service activities related to the SD Department.

Applying: The scholarship application opens Jan. 6, 2022, for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Doc Watson and Rosa Lee Scholarship

The Doc Watson and Rosa Lee Scholarship Fund provides at least one annual scholarship to a student who is engaged in sustainable development-related activities. Preference is given to students who are from the local area/region and who have a demonstrated financial need. This fund is managed and supported by Cove Creek Preservation & Development, Inc., a local nonprofit organization and the sponsor of the Doc Watson Music Fest. Goodnight Family and Goodnight Brothers Scholarships

Each year we award several scholarships sponsored by the Goodnight Family and Goodnight Brothers Country Ham Co. These awards range from $500-$2000 and are awarded to students majoring in Sustainable Development who have a strong academic record at Appalachian (minimum of 3.0 GPA), demonstrated financial need, and/or demonstrated commitment to community engagement and service. A generous gift in 2001 from the Goodnight Family and Goodnight Brothers Country Ham has greatly assisted SD in its academic, agricultural, and outreach initiatives. Find out more
