Environmental Problems Don't Fit in a Box. Neither Should Your Degree.

Connect your passion for the environment with the people, places, ideas, and communities that shape our world

The B.A. in Environmental Studies gives you the freedom to combine your passion for the environment with the academic interests that inspire you most. Whether you're drawn to communication, education, writing, public policy, languages, theology, the arts, social justice, or global studies, you'll have the flexibility to build a degree that reflects your goals while exploring the environmental challenges shaping our world. As you examine the relationships between people, communities, and ecosystems, you'll develop the critical thinking, communication, and leadership skills needed to make a meaningful impact.

Through the combination of environmental studies coursework, a minor, and foreign language study, you'll gain a broad perspective and the ability to engage thoughtfully with diverse cultures, ideas, and communities—preparing you to lead, collaborate, and create positive change in an increasingly interconnected and complex world.

What You'll Learn

Environmental challenges require both scientific understanding and human insight. Through coursework across disciplines, you'll explore environmental sustainability and justice, systems thinking and interdisciplinary problem-solving, environmental communication and public engagement, culture, ethics, and the environment, human-environment relationships, and leadership, collaboration, and critical thinking. You'll also complete a minor and develop intermediate proficiency in a second language.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

Environmental issues come to life when you engage with them directly. Through community-based learning, research opportunities, internships, and regional and global case studies, you'll connect classroom ideas to real-world challenges. The addition of a Minor program allows you to pursue experiences aligned with your interests, whether that means environmental advocacy, education, writing, community engagement, public policy, theology, or the arts.

Career Pathways

The B.A. in Environmental Studies prepares you for careers that benefit from strong communication, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary perspectives, including environmental education and outreach, environmental communication and journalism, public policy and advocacy, nonprofit and community leadership, sustainability programs and initiatives, law and public service, and arts, humanities, and environmental storytelling. Many graduates also pursue advanced study in related fields.

Become Part of the Solution

Creating a more sustainable future requires people who can connect ideas, bridge disciplines, and inspire others to take action. As a B.A. in Environmental Studies major, you'll learn to think broadly, communicate effectively, and engage thoughtfully with the environmental challenges facing our communities and our world.

If you're ready to combine your passion for the environment with your unique talents and interests, Environmental Studies can help you become part of the solution.
