SD Minor

Students on the 2015-2016 catalog year and beyond

Students on the 2015-2016 catalog year and beyond do not need advisor approval of any courses for the SD minor and should follow this checksheet: 2015-2016 Sustainable Development Minor Program of Study

Students on the 2014-15 catalog year and earlier

Below is a list of requirements for the SD Minor for students on the 2014-2015 catalog year and earlier. Electives must be approved by the SD minor advisor.  Please contact SD minor advisor Professor Laura England at englandle@appstate.edu.

1. Required: (9 semester hours)

  • SD 2400, Principles of Sustainable Development (3 s.h.)
  • SD 4550* SD Senior Seminar (3 s.h.) *SEE BELOW

AND choose one of the following:

  • SD 2610, Science for Sustainability (3 s.h.)  OR  SD 3100, Principles of Agroecology (3 s.h.)

2. Technology Requirement: (3 semester hours) Choose one of the following courses:

  • TEC 2601, Energy Issues and Technology (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 3604, Sustainable Transportation ( 3 s.h.)
  • TEC 3605, Sustainable Resource Management (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 3606, Sustainable Water and Wastewater Technology (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 4607, Wind and Hydro Power Technology (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 4608, Photovoltaic System Design and Construction (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 4618, Sustainable Building Design and Construction (3 s.h.)
  • TEC 4628, Solar Thermal Energy Technology (3 s.h.)

3. Electives: (6-8 semester hours required)
